A LEED for Homes® Platinum home is one that meets the rigorous requirements of the United States Green Building Council’s green certification standards in eight different resource categories including: Innovation and Design; Location and Linkages; Sustainable Sites; Water Efficiency; Energy and Atmosphere; Materials and Resources; Indoor Environmental Quality; Awareness and Education. The WarmForm® frost-protected floating foundation system is one that utilizes the latent heat of the earth itself to prevent frost heave. This system is an ideal option for a home that will be utilizing a cost-effective slab on grade construction system.Come see how a home can ‘break ground’ with out having to break ground!
Imagine the buildings of the future- right now!
Three tours during construction will be offered, January 26th, 2019; March 30th, 2109 and May 11th, 2019. Each tour in the three tour event series will focus on a different aspect of the home’s high-performance, energy efficient, sustainable construction. Experts will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight on how consumers can make smart, effective choices for their own homes. Tours may be attended individually, or collectively to get a more complete understanding of the full scope of what this project is aspiring to achieve. Separate registration is required for each tour in the series. A final completion/commencement tour at the end of construction (t.b.d.) will allow visitors to see the completely finished home. Each tour will last one hour and space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Tours will run every hour and a half from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tour Event One, January 26, 2019: LEED for Homes® & WarmForm®
In this first of three The 713 Project - 'For the Journey' tours we will introduce the LEED for Homes® Green Building Certification Program to attendees. Specifically, we will go over the aspects of the home that pertain to its conception, siting and infrastructure that will allow this home to achieve Platinum Certification and net zero energy performance. In particular, the innovative WarmForm® frost-protected floating foundation system will be explained and shown. The decision to employ this unique system developed in Scandinavia brought together multiple goals for the project addressing key specific needs. In particular, this system generates a cost-effective super-insulated floor system, a key element to the incredible energy performance of this home.
Tour Event Two, March 30, 2019: LEED for Homes® Building Enclosure Systems
At the second of the three tour events attendees will learn about the home’s building enclosure systems, the ‘building envelope’.This is one of the fundamental keys to a high performance home and there is no better time to see how the sausage is made than while it’s being made! This home has several very special features that influenced the design of the enclosure system including a storm safe room and a personal natatorium.
Tour Event Three, May 11, 2019: LEED for Homes® Building Mechanical and Renewable Energy Systems
At the third of the three tour events attendees will learn about the home’s infrastructure systems – its heating, cooling, domestic hot water and renewable energy systems. The close integration of the concept, design and mechanical/energy systems performance allows for this home be net zero energy- creating as much energy as it uses over the course of a year. You will learn from technical experts in each of the specific fields.
Final Completion/Commencement Tour Event, TBD
Note that although these will be a completely free events, space is limited and pre-registration will be required.
