Home Rebuild Pushes the Envelope for Green Construction Technology “Pushing the Envelope” a Visible Green Home® -Behind the Drywall® Tour presenting a rare hands-on opportunity to visit an in-progress resource-efficient home project that is designed for the future
Ann Arbor, MI, 11/21/2013 – Ann Arbor-based architecture firm, Architectural Resource and, green building and remodeling company, Meadowlark Builders, will be conducting tours of a resource-efficient home under construction in Ann Arbor. Guided tours will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 14 and 15, 2013, at 1512 Montclair Place, Ann Arbor. Attendees will be able to see what makes up the core of a super energy-efficient home using a variety of cutting-edge green design and building strategies during construction before the drywall goes up.
According to Michael Klement, AIA, principal at Architectural Resource, the clients want “to get as close to a carbon-neutral lifestyle as possible and also have a home that is “Future Ready” to accommodate changing lifestyles, technology, and building code advances.” Says Klement, “the core design concept of this comprehensive whole-house remodel completely reimagined the home in alignment with those goals including: re-orientation of the building form for maximum solar gain, Not So Big® inspired space efficient design approach, Aging in Place® adaptable strategies, water and waste resource/recovery design, and neighborhood-scale sensitive architecture.
Along with future-ready components this home will have a unique thermal envelope using phase change materials (PCM), earth-tubes and geothermal HVAC, and DOW Powerhouse Solar Shingles. “These clients are scientists and they really want to push the technology envelope,” notes Doug Selby, Meadowlark Builders President and co-founder. “Using an advanced exterior envelope and advanced ducting and energy management systems, this home will perform at a level that other framed houses cannot achieve – and the DOW Powerhouse solar shingles are the icing on top of the cake,” adds Selby.
Attendees will be taken through the home via a guided tour that lasts approximately one hour. The event is free; however, pre-registration is required by visiting http://www.behindthedrywall.com/pushing-the-envelope or by calling 734-332-1500.
